Scholarships for Students in Iowa

A $400.00 nursing education merit award shall be given annually by the Iowa Department of the American Legion Auxiliary in memory of the late Mary Virginia Macrae, who served as the first Department President of this organization.

This scholarship is for residents of the Heartland Foundation service region, which includes the following counties:

• In Missouri - Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Platte, Ray, and Worth
• In Iowa - Decatur, Fremont, Page, Ringgold, and Taylor
• In Kansas - Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, and Nemaha
• In Nebraska - Nemaha and Richardson

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be accepted and enrolled in 12 hours of study for a regular semester or equivalent full-time status in an approved nursing or health care-related program. Students enrolled in a pre-health program are not eligible.

 

The scholarship is for  college students who are seeking admission to, or have been accepted into, a baccalaureate program in nursing at an accredited Iowa or Illinois college or university in the region. It is awarded to students with an agreement to work full-time at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, or Genesis Medical Center, Illinois Campus for two years upon completion of their degree.

This scholarship is awarded to American Indian or other ethnic minority students preparing for a career in nursing, public health and/or related fields at a college or school of nursing within the State of Iowa. Preference is given to graduates from Iowa High Schools. Financial need considered.

Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student from Boone or Dallas counties, Iowa. Selection is based upon academic achievement and financial need.

Applicant must be a high school senior in Iowa who plans to attend college next fall. To qualify, applicant must complete two online financial literacy tutorials and an online financial literacy assessment. The applicants who score the highest on the assessment test will receive a scholarship sent directly to their college or university.

Applicants must be working toward a degree in one of the following fields: animal science, animal nutrition, dairy science, poultry science, equine/equestrian science, agriculture, agricultural science, agricultural business management, economics, finance or marketing and sales. Applicants must attend college in and be residents of one of the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia or West Virginia. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

Applicant must be a graduate from an Iowa secondary school. Selection is based upon academic achievement and financial need. Preference given to majors in: chemistry, civil engineering, engineering, food technology, microbiology, and zoology.

Awarded to (in order of preference) a member of the Virginia Tech Cycling Club or a resident of Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, or Maryland. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen and be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours per semester). Entering freshman and transfer applicants should have a minimum combined SAT I score of 1100. Returning student applicant should have a minimum 3.0 Quality Credit Average (QCA). Applicant must submit FAFSA. Selection is based upon demonstrated financial need, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community service.

Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or community college, or if still in high school, must have an expected graduation date in the spring. College applicants must be working toward a degree in either agriculture and/or agribusiness. Must be the son/daughter of an Iowa Farm Bureau member.

Applicant must be graduating senior from a high school in Cedar, Clinton, Des Moines, Jackson, Johnson, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren, or Washington County, IA or Carroll, Henry, Knox, Mercer, Rock Island, or Whiteside County, IL who will attend Iowa State University full-time.

Applicant must be a senior graduating from an Iowa high school who will attend an Iowa college or university.

Applicants must be women who are enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program that is related to transportation. They either must be attending a school located in Minnesota, or must be North Dakota, South Dakota or Iowa students who have lived in Minnesota at some point during the past five years. They must have plans to pursue a career in the transportation field, and must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Selection is based on academic merit, transportation-related activities and career goals.

Applicant must be a female graduate student majoring in chemistry at Iowa State University.

Applicant must be a graduating senior from a public school in Davenport, Bettendorf or Pleasant Valley School Districts who will pursue a degree in education full-time at a local community college or the University of Northern Iowa, Iowa State University, or the State University of Iowa. Financial need must be demonstrated.

Applicant must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and be a full-time student over age 24 who did not enter Iowa State University directly from high school. Must be responsible for dependents other than spouse. Selection is based upon academic achievement and financial need.

Applicant must be accepted or enrolled in a college of agriculture which offers courses in food animal production. Preference given to students enrolled in a food animal production curriculum and students enrolled in regions where fund-raising events are held such as Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Applicant must be an entering freshman student who live in Cedar, Clinton, Muscatine, or Scott Counties. Preference given to females from rural areas in Scott County, Iowa. Selection is based upon academic achievement and demonstrated involvement in community, school, and/or work activities.

Applicant must be a resident of Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa, or Wisconsin who has been accepted to or is a current student at an accredited college, university, or technical school majoring in broadcasting, television, or electronic media. Strong GPA, involvement in extra-curricular activities relating to major, demonstrated leadership, and creativity/ passion for intended field of employment required.

Applicants must plan to attend an Iowa college, university or trade school. Selection is based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and leadership qualities.
