Scholarships for Students in North Carolina

This scholarship was introduced to attract outstanding nurses to pursue a masters degree in nursing as preparation for them to teach nurse education programs and to provide nursing services to citizens of North Carolina.

These awardees will be repaid through employment (work service) as a registered nurse (RN) in the state of North Carolina for one year for each year the scholarship loan was received.

North Carolina Nurse Education Scholarship-Loan Program is available through the financial aid offices of North Carolina colleges and universities that offer nurse education programs which prepare students for licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN).

The Virginia Elizabeth and Alma Vane Taylor Nursing Scholarship will provide awards for North Carolina residents seeking associate or baccalaureate nursing
degrees. Preference will be given to students seeking first-time nursing degrees.

This scholarship is for any undergraduate or graduate student who has been admitted unconditionally into a graduate program or undergraduate major within the College of Health and Human Services. First preference will be given to students from Anson, Franklin or Wake counties in North Carolina.

The Ann Mabe Newman and William G. Newman Nursing Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in a Master of Science in Nursing or doctoral degree program. The candidate is required to be Licensed Registered Nurse in North Carolina.

Applicant must be a vocational or technical student and a North Carolina resident enrolled in a transferable program with a GPA at or above the graduation level and must agree to attend a one-day seminar. Applicant must be attending one of 20 selected North Carolina community colleges. Priority is given to African Americans. Selection is based upon academic achievement, need, and extracurricular activities.

Applicant must be a North Carolina resident ranking in top quarter of class and have a minimum combined SAT I score of 1050 (composite ACT score of 24).

Applicants must have been registered on a Dixie Youth Baseball team participating in a franchised Dixie Youth Baseball Inc. league prior to reaching age thirteen. Selection is based on financial need, scholastic record and citizenship. Programs are located in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Applicant must have at least a general class radio license and be attending school in the ARRL Roanoke Division (North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia). Preference is given to residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Applicants must be sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate or graduate students in natural or applied science, engineering or mathematics at Brown University, Colorado School of Mines, Clemson University, Florida Institute of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology, Harvey Mudd College, Johns Hopkins University, Louisiana State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Miami University, North Carolina State University, North Dakota State University, Ohio State, Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University, Syracuse University, Texas A&M University, Tufts University, University of Arizona, University of Central Florida, University of Chicago, University of Colorado, University of Kansas, University of Kentucky, University of Minnesota, University of Michigan, University of Oklahoma, University of Rochester, University of Southern California, University of Texas at Austin, University of Virginia, University of Washington, University of Wisconsin or Washington University and must be nominated by faculty or staff. Applicants may not directly apply for the scholarship. Students must have excellent grades and performed research or lab work in their field.

Applicants must be residents of North Carolina. They must be studying a subject in the field of allied health at an accredited postsecondary institution and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. They must be seeking a first-time certificate, diploma, associate's degree or bachelor's degree. Master's degree holders are ineligible. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to residents of Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes and Yadkin counties. Selection is based on the overall strength of the application.

Applicant must be a female college freshman, re-entry, or transfer student who is a North Carolina resident enrolled at an accredited institution in North Carolina. Must be a STEM major with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Essay, transcripts, proof of acceptance, and letter of recommendation required.

Applicant must be a writer who resides in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina. Fictional short story, nonfictional article or essay, up to three poems, OR a one-act play required. $15 entry fee required.

Applicant must demonstrate financial need and be well advanced in programs of education with an established career plan for teaching. Applicant must be interested in child guidance and counseling and want to make a difference in the lives of North Carolina's children.

Applicant must be a North Carolina or South Carolina resident and a full-time student, be articulate, have a minimum 3.7 GPA, demonstrate involvement in university outside activities with leadership ability, and have a connection between studies, job plans, and extracurricular activities with future plans well thought out in the field of finance.

Students must hold a significant campus leadership position, demonstrate significant leadership skills and abilities and make significant contributions through on- or off-campus volunteering. Students must attend school in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia or Puerto Rico.

Applicant must be the child of a deceased, disabled, or combat veteran or veteran listed as a POW/MIA. The veteran must have been a legal resident of North Carolina at the time of entry into service, or the child must have been born in North Carolina and resided there continuously since birth. Applicant must be attending a school in North Carolina.

Applicant must be a North Carolina resident enrolled in a teacher-education program. Applicant must be in their junior year of college and be willing to teach in the public schools of North Carolina for a minimum of two years following graduation.

Applicant must be a resident of Chatham, Durham, Orange, Wake, or Pearson County, NC, who is a current nursing student at a public institution or have been admitted to a nursing program at a public institution in North Carolina offering an associate or baccalaureate degree in nursing. Minimum 2.0 GPA and financial need are required.
