Admission Requirements

  • Earned undergraduate Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all college coursework
  • Completion of a college-level anatomy and physiology course covering all body systems with minimum grade of C
  • Completion of a college-level statistics course with minimum grade of C
  • Admission considered through a competitive process; enrollment may be limited by clinical learning facility availability

Selection Process

  • Enrollment may be capped due to availability of clinical learning facilities
  • Transfer from traditional BSN track to ABSN allowed only if ABSN admission requirements are met and no courses have been failed after matriculation
  • Academic progression rules: grades of C- and below are not acceptable in nursing support courses; grades of C and below are not acceptable in nursing (NUR/HLT) core courses; minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 required to maintain enrollment in nursing courses

Clinical & Simulation Lab

  • Clinical components may be completed in community, acute, or long-term care settings
  • Clinical space may be limited or capped annually
  • On-campus clinical skills lab sessions required prior to semester start (UMFK: mid-August for summer session or early January for fall session; UMPI: arrive 2 weeks prior to spring semester lab component)
  • Final preceptorship course requires six weeks to complete

  • Must be able to satisfy USM Nursing Clinical Health and Background Check Requirements prior to May start

Clinical & Simulation Lab

  • Clinical experiences at inpatient, outpatient, and community-based facilities
  • Clinical placements in small groups with a clinical faculty member
  • Final semester clinical assignment with a preceptor in a direct-care setting
  • Laboratory facilities: Learning Resources and Simulation Center; Physical Assessment Lab; Fundamentals of Nursing Lab
  • Community-based clinical activities include primary care, public health, and mental health services
