Program Length & Format

  • Four back-to-back quarters, full-time
  • Total program credits: 79
  • Includes in-class coursework, simulation center exercises, and supervised clinical placements

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field required
  • Minimum cumulative college-level GPA: 2.80
  • Minimum cumulative GPA in natural sciences courses: 3.30
  • Minimum grade of 3.0 in each of at least three prerequisite science courses
  • Applicants must be exempt from UW English language proficiency requirements to start
  • Background check required if offered admission (cost paid by applicant)

Prerequisites

  • Chemistry: CHEM 120, CHEM 220, CHEM 221 (three-quarter series for UW students; two-quarter sequence for non-UW applicants)
  • Biology: BIOL 118, BIOL 119
  • Microbiology: MICROM 301 (plus MICROM 302 for UW students; non-UW applicants must include a microbiology laboratory if not included)
  • Nutrition: NUTR 200
  • NURS 301 or B STR 301
  • Lifespan growth and development: NURS 201 or equivalent
  • One statistics course (examples: STAT 220, STAT 311, Q SCI 381, QMETH 201, EDPSY 490)

Deadlines

  • Admission occurs twice per year for autumn and spring quarters
  • Application deadline: the preceding autumn quarter for each admission cycle

Application

  • College transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Personal statement reflecting personal healthcare experience, fit for nursing role, and cultural awareness
  • Letter of recommendation from a healthcare provider (employer or volunteer coordinator)
  • Outline of volunteer/paid healthcare experience, community service, and leadership
  • Applicants expected to have 100 hours of paid or volunteer healthcare experience in one setting for three months or more, completed within 12 months prior to application

  • Admission offered twice per year based on application review
  • Meeting minimum requirements does not ensure admission

Cost & Financial Aid

  • Department scholarships available; awards based on student need established by FAFSA
  • Students invited to apply for School of Nursing Financial Aid application after admission

Clinical & Simulation Lab

  • Program includes clinical simulation exercises in the School of Nursing Simulation Center
  • Supervised direct patient care in clinical settings required
  • Clinical nursing component: 32 credits (NCLIN course sequence listed in program completion requirements)

Credit Transfer
