BSN Programs in New York

The biggest BSN school in New York, based on student population, is the Columbia University. In 2010, this university graduated about 360 students from the BSN program. The prospect for nurses in NY is quite good, with a foreseen 13% employment increase by the year 2018. 

If you do decide to enroll in any nursing school in the Empire State, it is best to look for the ones that steer you towards becoming a successful and competent registered nurse. New York has a lot to offer in terms of nursing school benefits. Most of them are top notch with their latest curriculum. 

The state plans even offers loan forgiveness if you work at a certain period of time. There are various scholarships and nursing grants for the right kinds of candidates. 

York College 

There are two nursing programs that are offered here – the entry-level or generic BSN program and the RN to BSN bridge program for graduates of diploma or Associate’s degree programs. 

York College’s Baccalaureate nursing program offers a liberal-arts based education for its enrollees. This guides the student in attaining the necessary skills, knowledge and values in nursing. 

The two tracks in their Nursing programs include the RN to Baccalaureate program and the generic Baccalaureate program which is designed to prepare nursing professionals that can pass the NCLEX-RN. 

All Nursing programs in this school are taught by Master’s and Doctoral degree holders that have had many years of clinical experiences. Their BSN program is also accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or NLNAC. 

New York University 

NYU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program comes in the 15 or 18-month options. An applicant who wants to enroll in this program must first have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Also, students should complete all the prerequisite courses such as human anatomy and physiology I and II; microbiology; chemistry; statistics; introduction to Child Development; Adult Development; and Principles of Nutrition, to name a few. 

Applicants need to submit their NYUCN application form in their senior year in high school. NYU also requires the submission of TOR or transcript of records. The university has the option to turn down an application based on their calculation of the student’s science and non-science GPA. An offer of admission may even be withdrawn when the university learns that the applicant failed to meet requirements in any degree.
