LPN Programs in Florida

Florida is one of the states with a growing number of opportunities when it comes to health care. The LPNs in this state comprise 22% of the current number of nurses. This percentage explains the equally flourishing number of nursing schools and universities that provide certificates, training and degree programs pertaining to the field of nursing. Currently, Tampa Bay, Fort Meyers, Lakelund, Jacksonville, Palm Bay, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Sarasota are the ones that have the most prevalent number of LPN employers and educational institution.

Florida’s Nursing Education

To date, there are more than 120 schools that offer nursing programs in the state. The program types range from diploma to Associate degrees. Those who wish to continue their studies can enroll in BSN, Master’s and Doctoral degrees.

Scholarship is available for students who are residents of FL. One of the renown awards is the Janet Colliflower Keys Nursing Scholarship program. This is a $1,000 USD scholarship given to two deserving students every year.

The Ratio Between Florida Population and Nursing Outlook

The state has a continuously growing population. Because of this, the state is now suffering from a serious shortage of nurses. The Bureau of Labor Statistics pointed out that the state will need more than 7,000 nurses very soon. This is why considering a career  in nursing– and a quick one at that – would be a good way to help fill in this need.

Begin your career in nursing the right way. Here are the nursing schools that offer courses to help you become an LPN –

Indian River State College

The Practical Nursing Program in this school is a certificate program that leads to an opportunity to try the NCLEX-PN or the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. IRSC provides an excellent foundation in terms of nursing fundamentals. They offer intensive classroom instruction, with top members of faculty teaching the courses. Students can also look forward to hours of supervised clinical experiences which would train them in the best local health agency settings.

The main campus offers the PN program which is a one-year training for students which attend about 35 hours of class per week.

Lincoln Technical Institute

Founded as early as 1946, this educational institution has much to offer in terms of teaching experience. Lincoln Tech has 21 campuses to date which offer a wide array of degrees and certificate programs. They boast of the best hands-on training for students who are studying to become LPNs. They also have industry standard equipment and Career Placement assistance. Students have the freedom to choose their schedules from the morning, afternoon or evening classes.

If you are considering this school, it is best to contact their Career Advisor in one of their campuses. A personal interview with this advisor often discusses the curriculum. It also includes a meet-and-greet session with faculty and staff.

Lincoln Tech is a school that does not judge a student based on his SAT scores, however, in return, they require a high school diploma or its equivalent GED plus passing their entrance exam.

Americare School of Nursing Fern Park

FernPark is one of the largest suburbs in the state; this school is in the middle of this suburb and is a private, non-profit institution. Americare offers Practical Nursing, a program that balances classroom and clinical experience. A student can look forward to a solid foundation in pediatrics, medical-surgical nursing, obstetrics, geriatrics and pharmacology. A graduate can pursue the LPN State Board licensure exam.

Americare can cater to every student’s unique scheduling needs. Majority of their enrollees work part-time or have family responsibilities to attend to so they need a schedule that fits into their busy day-to-day calendar.

Many classes can focus in just 1-2 courses at a given time. There are weekday, weeknight and weekend schedules to choose from. Know more about this and the admission requirements from the admission representative.
