The program is offered in a combination of classroom theoretical instruction and clinical practice experience opportunities in a range of healthcare facilities.
Graduates from the program are eligible to apply to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination to become licensed Registered Nurses.
Students who are not directly accepted into the clinical part of the nursing program will be enrolled in the pre-nursing curriculum affording those intending to be admitted to the nursing program a chance to complete as many of the general education courses and pre-requisites for the clinical section.
Admission to the clinical part of the nursing program is competitive with students required to apply separately. LPNs entering the program are admitted in May while students with no nursing program enter the program in August. Priority is given to qualified residents from the Blue Ridge service area.

LPN’s applying for admission to the clinical component are required to present all the requirements of the regular admission criteria as well as an unencumbered current LPN license for the state of Virginia.
The ADN program offers two tracks for enrollment. The Traditional Track is offered in regular daytime classroom sessions Monday through Friday and clinical practice offered at various times including weekends and/or evenings.
The second track is the Hybrid Distance Education Track which offers theoretical instruction in a virtual format and clinical classes arranged during the day, on evenings and/or weekends.

The J. Sargeant Reynolds ADN program is fully approved by Virginia state board of nursing and students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to apply to sit for NCLEX.

Admission to the nursing program is competitive. Qualified candidates will be ranked on the basis of their Kaplan Nursing Admission Test scores and the various components of their application.
Deadlines for applications for entry into the nursing program are on the 4th Monday of every September for enrollment in the spring semester, on the 4th Monday in January of each year for the summer quarter and on the 4th of Monday in March of each year for admission in the fall quarter.
LPNs and transfer students who have completed at least one semester of nursing classes with clinical practice are eligible to apply for advanced placement. Applicants seeking advanced placement need to meet all application requirements including transcripts.
Transfer applicants need to present a written statement from their previous school establishing that they are students in good standing eligible to progress in the program.
All students who enter the program are required participate in a compulsory information session.
The Lord Fairfax Community College offers a four semester ADN program designed to prepare students to offer direct patient care as entry level practitioners in the nursing profession.
Students who graduate from the program will be awarded the AAS degree and are eligible to apply to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination.
The ADN curriculum offers a combination theoretical and practical instruction allowing students to transfer credits for baccalaureate level work with maximum ease.

Applicants accepted in to the program will be required to submit physical history and examination, complete necessary immunization series, current CPR certification for health care providers from the American Heart Association and complete criminal background check including fingerprinting and drug screening required by affiliated clinical agencies and the licensing body.
The Dabney S Lancaster Community College Nursing program is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Admission Requirements:
Students will be accepted into the program on a ranking system according to the prerequisite courses completed and GPA. Students who meet the requirements for admission are required to complete the health assessment including tuberculin test and immunization series. Students accepted to the program will need to submit to drug screening after nursing orientation.
Students will need to show proof of CPR certification for health care providers and criminal background check if required.
Applications for admission into the nursing program are accepted on the first Monday of January for enrollment in the fall semester. Applications will be accepted until the class quota is filled.
Applicants to the program are admitted in August. Applicants to the program are advised to apply early as enrollment is limited. The deadline for complete applications is the 15th of March, and the 1st of Math for applicants wishing to take the TEAS at New River.

The program offers a five semester curriculum culminating in the AAS degree. This program is approval by the Virginia State Board of Nursing. The program offers the necessary foundation for the opportunity to transfer to four year colleges and universities.

The Piedmont Virginia Community College ADN program offers a curriculum that can serve as a foundation for those students seeking to pursue a higher degree.
Applicants can enter the program for admission in the day or the evening & weekend study option. Students enrolled in the second option may be assigned to clinical over the course of one evening, Saturdays or Sundays.
Admissions Requirements:
Admission to the nursing program will be considered through a ranking system that will take into consideration all prerequisites for the Nursing program. Priority is given to students who are residents in the college’s service area: Buckingham, Albemarle, Louisa, Fluvanna, Charlottesville, Nelson and Greene.
The college will maintain a waiting list of qualified applicant only until the first week of August with applicants not admitted into the program required to reapply for admission in subsequent years.
The ADN program at Rappahannock offers a 2 year curriculum culminating in the Associate of Applied Science degree.
