ADN Programs in Illinois

Associate's degree programs in Illinois are offered throughout the state. To become a registered nurse in Illinois, you need to accomplish the Associate's or Bachelor’s degrees and then pass the NCLEX-RN. This is a two-year program that focuses in training students to become registered nurses that work in labor and delivery; intensive care units; hospice; and other health care facilities. 

Here are some of the ADN programs in the state of Illinois:

Black Hawk College 

The ADN program is tailored to prepare students as beginning practitioners but are able to give the best nursing care to patients. Upon completion of this program, the graduate becomes eligible to take the licensure examination. 

BlackHawkCollege has a curriculum that is career-oriented and is approved by the Illinois Department of Finance and Professional Regulation. It is also accredited by the NLNAC or the Nursing Accrediting Commission. 

Prospective ADN students are all asked to take the Test of Academic Essential Skills or TEAS. Students are persuaded to prepare for the said exam so that they get the required admission score. The minimum required score is 50. Getting a score of 80 or higher means the student will be considered for admission to the Associate Degree in Nursing program without remediation and this also provides higher student ranking.

Heartland Community College 

The Associate Degree in Nursing program at this college prepares students to eventually take the licensure examination for registered nurses but it is not just any nursing school out there. The school has a philosophy and mission that guides the faculty in their provision of quality education. To them, nursing is not all about educating the patient but also promoting self-care in individuals, their families and the communities that they live in. 

The school’s program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. It has a selective admissions program and an advanced placement criteria . A bigger chunk of the prerequisites for this school is the student’s health. He must be able to fulfill the requirements that are set by the nursing program which satisfies the recommendations of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Incorporated. Apart from this, a criminal background history is also required. 

John A. Logan College 

The ADN program in this school is designed to provide practical nursing graduates with career mobility. Theirs is a unique nursing program which prepares students for nursing practice as outlined in the Illinois Nursing Act. Upon completion of the program, students become eligible to write the licensure exam. 

Kaskaskia College 

The field internship for their ADN program  includes clinical assignments in different health care settings such as acute care, LTC, doctors’ offices, clinics and community agencies. 

The KaskaskiaCollege program requirements ask for English and Math completion as well as biology and computer skills. A semester in college or two semesters in high school merits admission but the student must have a grade of C or higher. 

Every student that gets accepted in the ADN program must already have a state-certified Nurse Assistant certificate. He must also have satisfied a criminal background check and drug screening. Applicants for the NCLEX are required to undergo a fingerprint background check. 

These program requirements have taken effect since the Spring of 2008.

Morton College 

This college’s ADN program is responsive to the ever-evolving health care field. The school guarantees students of the best educational preparation for nurses which is a curriculum filled with nursing fundamentals, habits, skills, best practices, even intellectual self-discipline. The school’s education is structured to deliver primary, secondary and tertiary setting nursing care. 

Lewis and Clark Community College 

There Associate Degree in Nursing program is meant to prepare students to become capable nurses in different health care settings as well as to manage health problems.   

This school’s ADN program has been evaluated by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. and can be completed in two years. It includes simulation instruction, classroom sessions and clinicals. Upon graduation, the student is awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree and becomes eligible for the NCLEX-RN.
