ADN Programs in California

If you're building a shortlist of ADN programs in California, this directory makes it easy to compare your options side by side. You'll find programs offered through public community colleges and private schools all across the state. Each listing shows you where the school is located, what type of institution it is, and how their graduates perform on the NCLEX-RN exam. When available, you'll see recent NCLEX pass rates (calculated as multi-year averages) and California RN program rankings for 2025. The nice thing is that every listing uses the same data points, so you can do apples-to-apples comparisons across different regions.

San Diego City College ranks #1 in California for 2025 and has a really impressive 99.6% NCLEX pass rate. If you look at their admissions snapshot, you'll need to complete science prerequisites like Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology (all with labs), plus English Composition. They require a minimum 2.5 GPA in your prerequisites and at least 62% on the ATI TEAS exam. Their application windows are February 1 to 28 for fall admission and August 1 to 31 for spring admission.

Over in Orange County, Saddleback College in Mission Viejo does things a little differently. They use a multi-criteria selection model and don't have a traditional waitlist. Instead, they keep an alternate list for each admission cycle. Cost-wise, the total program runs about $6,372.25, not counting NCLEX fees. Enrollment is $46 per unit, or $450 per unit if you're a nonresident.

If you're in the Northern Inland Empire, San Bernardino Valley College has an 82.9% NCLEX pass rate. They publish clear deadlines: February 1 for fall entry and September 1 for spring entry.

After you graduate from any California ADN program, you'll need to apply for licensure through the California Board of Registered Nursing. That process includes fingerprinting for a criminal history check (Live Scan if you're in California, or a hard card method for some out-of-state folks), and then you'll take the NCLEX-RN.

This directory covers 122 ADN programs throughout California and gives you NCLEX pass rate context for each one. That makes it a lot easier to compare programs and see where you want to apply.

Where possible, we include NCLEX pass rates data for each campus. The average pass rates are calculated using the last 3 years of data. The average scores are then used in our annual RN/PN rankings. You can read more about it here. You can also view this year's rankings for California here.

The Yuba College ADN program prepares students to licensure as a Registered Nurse, following successful completion of the national NCLEX examination.

The program offers clinical experiences in a range of health care settings including acute care hospitals, extended care facilities, offices and clinics. Lectures are broadcast via interactive TV from Yuba College in Marysville to Woodland Community College and to the Lake County campus.

Some classes are available online and many are web enhanced. Skills labs in Marysville and Woodland are also provided by part-time instructors

Technology is integrated throughout the nursing program curriculum. Therefore, computer literacy is an essential competency of the nursing student as there is a degree of online instruction.

Yuba College utilizes a multi-criteria screening process to score and rank program applicants according to a combination of their academic and personal achievements. A minimum score of 50 is required to be eligible for application to the program.

Evaluations of eligible applications will take place from March through May and candidate selection for enrollment in the program will occur between May 1 and June 1. Applicants who were not among the top 70, or were found ineligible to apply for the program, will not be contacted regarding their application status.

All students enrolled in nursing and allied health programs are subject to the district drug policy and procedure for background screening.

Modesto Junior College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and has a full accreditation status. The nursing program uses the California Community College Chancellor’s Model for selection of program applicants. Applicants must achieve a Success Index score of 75 or higher to be qualified. Randomized selection will be used to select students from the pool of applicants with scores of 75 and above. The point system will be calculated on the basis of College GPA (English and Biology GPA).

Applications for admittance are accepted once a year between the 1st and the 31st of May and students are selected from this pool for admission in the fall and spring semesters. Applications are available from the Allied Health office and website during the application period only and only applications received before the deadline will be processed.

Conditionally accepted applicants will receive information regarding health clearance and the criminal background check, CPR certification, drug screen, and the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS). The health clearance and physical examination is designed to ensure that the applicant does not have any health conditions that are hazardous and includes documentation of required immunizations and a negative PPD skin test. The criminal background check is a requirement for clinical agencies for students undertaking clinical experience practice.

Students enrolled in the ADN program are required to complete all coursework with a ‘C’ grade or more to go on with the course and graduate in order to qualify for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). The California Board of Registered Nursing protects the public by screening applicants for licensure in order to identify potentially unsafe practitioners.

The Fresno City College Nursing program is designed to prepare students for the provision of health care services. The program equips students with the scientific knowledge and technical skills required in the nursing profession as well as leadership and managerial expertise.

In class instruction is offered at the Fresno City College campus while Nursing Clinical practice is provided for at selected hospitals and other healthcare facilities in the local community.

Students who successfully complete the program are awarded an Associate of Science degree and are eligible to sit for the National Nursing Licensing examination as preamble to working in a structured health care environment.

The curriculum is covered in four semesters of 9 or more credits. Students are able to take additional credits every semester to complete the general education requirements for the program. The program also offers additional specialized nursing electives to supplement the nursing education being offered.

The program is quite intensive and it is not recommended that a student works more than 16 hours per week during the nursing part of the section to insure technical ability and be ready for the National Nursing Examination.

The courses and credits offered in the ADN program are designed to be transferable towards a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
