The San Diego State University School of Nursing Master of Science Degree is intended to prepare graduates to function in a range of specialties including nurse practitioners, clinical specialists, nurse midwives, community based nurses/school nurses, administrators and/or nurse educators and as middle or executive-level nursing.
Students can attend the program on the basis of part time or full time enrollment. All students are prepared for entry into nurse researcher for continued education in doctoral studies.
Admission Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree with a nursing major from a CCNE or NLNC accredited program
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
- Acceptable GRE scores
- A current, valid, unencumbered California License to practice as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum of a ‘C’ grade or higher in a basic statistics course
Applicants are recommended to have at least 12 months of work experience as a Registered Nurse before beginning a specialization program. Applicants who graduated with a non-nursing major from a baccalaureate program will be considered on an individual basis and maybe admitted on the condition of enrolling in the necessary undergraduate courses in addition to the course requirements for the Master’s program.
Students in all tracks are required to choose between a Thesis or project or Comprehensive Exam designated Plan A and B respectively.
