The University of Alaska at Anchorage Master of Science in Nursing, program emphasizes advanced nursing theory, practice, research and health care delivery systems. The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.

Students in the MSN program at UAA can select to specialize in one of the three tracks, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for family, Family Nurse Practitioner or Nursing Education.

Graduates from the Family Nurse Practitioner track are eligible to sit for the national certification examination for advanced professional practice as a family nurse practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Association. Graduates from Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner are eligible for advance practice and graduates from the Nursing Education track are eligible to sit for the NLN Certified Nurse Educator Exam after two years of full time teaching experience.

The courses offered at this level are also intended to provide students the basis for more advance study at the doctoral level.

Admission Requirements:

  1. Baccalaureate or graduate degree from a NLN or CCNE accredited program
  2. Minimum GPA of 3.0 on all previous degrees
  3. Current and unencumbered nursing license
  4. Minimum of a C grade or higher in an undergraduate or higher research methods course and a statistics course that covers descriptive and inferential statistics.
  5. Complete application documents
  6. Proctored Writing Sample
  7. Interview

Applications deadline for applicants seeking to enter in March is the 1st of November while applications for November enrollment should be received on or before the 1st of November.
