LPN to BSN Programs in Louisiana

The LPN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing bridge program is designed for licensed practical nurses who want to advance in their careers by becoming RNs. Most of these programs are two years in length and can provide credit for previous education that was completed though the amount credited can vary per institution. An LPN to BSN program often provides internship opportunities in local hospitals.

To be able to enroll in this program, an applicant must be a licensed practical nurse that has completed a year of post-secondary nursing program. A few LPN to BSN programs require students to have a minimum of one year clinical nursing experience; again, requirements may vary with every school.

The LPN to BSN degree program offers nursing, life science and healthcare courses where students learn to care for patients and to diagnose minor medical issues. They are also expected to work with different healthcare professional teams.

Nicholls State University

This school’s nursing department offers the LPN to BSN degree with an approval of the LSBN or Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Their nursing programs are also accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

Due to the limited members of faculty and clinical facilities, a quota was placed on the number of admitted students for this program. It prepares the individual for his continuous nursing career growth and possible formal graduate study.

A student may apply by submitting the required Application for BSN Clinical Courses; completing 36 hours of the BSN curriculum; a GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale with no course below a grade of C.

Our Lady of Holy Cross College

Current LPNs follow the same admission requirements and procedures for new students to the Department of Nursing; however, a licensed practical nurse may take the first clinical nursing course for 7 credits.

After completing at least two semesters and an overall GPA of 2.5, an applicant becomes eligible to apply to any program at the Department of Nursing. An applicant must also complete 12 hours of science courses. TEAS and a reading test are required for admission and these are administered every February and March every year.
