Oakland University is a public institution in Rochester Hills, Michigan. It was founded in 1957 as a satellite campus of Michigan State University. The campus was built on 1,443 acres of land donated to MSU. The university was originally known as Michigan State University-Oakland until 1963. Oakland University became fully independent in 1970. The university offers over 132 undergraduate programs and 138 graduate programs across its multiple schools and colleges, including the School of Nursing. Oakland University is primarily a research institution and supports a variety of research centers and institutes, including the Center for Robotics and Advanced Automation.
Seven nursing programs are offered at Oakland University. The undergraduate programs include BSN, accelerated BSN, and RN to BSN degree programs. The graduate-level programs include MSN, RN to MSN, and DNP programs. The university also offers an LPN program for those wanting to earn their Licensed Practical Nurse certificate. These programs are accredited by the CCNE. Students receive clinical experience by working at a variety of healthcare facilities throughout Southeastern Michigan. The master’s degree program includes several specialty tracks, including Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Forensic Nursing. For registered nurses, the RN to BSN program offers a path to earning a BSN in just 12 months.
