Free NCLEX Questions and Study Guides

If you are gearing up to take the NCLEX exam and you are looking for free resources to help you with your study, you have come to the right place.

Whether you are a book learner or you prefer an in-person class or an online interactive study material, there are a lot of services and courses out there that can help you get ready for the NCLEX. But you have to spend a few hundred dollars or even thousands in some cases to buy these books and courses. However, if you are strapped for cash, you can use free resources instead. Some of these resources are created by nursing students just like you to help out fellow students and some of them are demo versions of the paid NCLEX review products.

To help you save time, we went out and look for these free resources and listed them on this page for easy access. On this page, you will find a short description of the resources along with their web address.

Nclex PN Practice Questions

This website is created by an LPN to help out students who are preparing for the NCLEX-PN exam. At the time of writing, the website has 7 sets of quizzes that contain 15 questions each. The questions are multiple choices style and there is no rationale for the answers.

Student Nursing Study Blog

This is a very old resource that is full of helpful study materials and a lot of NCLEX style questions. The questions are written by a student nurse to help out others. There is no fancy user interface but the questions come in with a rationale.

Nurse Plus

This website is well organized and has a good interface. They organized their questions based on the NCSBN exam outline (Physiological Integrity, Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and Maintenance, and Psychosocial). At the time of writing, there were five question sets inside each category that contain 20 questions each.

Nurses Labs

Nurses lab is a great resource for nursing students and practicing nurses. It has several nursing care plans, study guides and mnemonics, NCLEX-RN practice questions, and miscellaneous articles. The website is authored by a group of RNs and their NCLEX question bank has over 3500 practice questions.

NRSNG

The site is run by Jon Haws, a nurse who had struggled while in nursing school and finally found a method that helped him pass NCLEX. The website provides a paid review services and has over 4,500 practice questions. The website also has some sample practice questions spread across multiple pages:

Varsity Tutors

This company connects students with tutors that help them prepare for many different exams, including NCLEX. They provide over 240 free NCLEX-RN practice questions and some flashcards with detailed explanations.

Learning Nurse

learningnurse.org is an informal nurse learning, continuing education, and professional development website that provides various educational resources to students in the form of apps, games quizzes, and videos. The site has 1000s of free quizzes that can help you refresh your nursing knowledge.

Practicequiz.com

This site has 100s of quizzes for a lot of test types including NCLEX. The site provides 165 free NCLEX style practice questions with explanations. The test can be taken either in a study mode or exam mode (with a timer).

Kaplan Free Trial

Kaplan provides a free trial to their paid version of NCLEX question bank. The full, paid version comes with over 2000 questions. The trial has only 50 handpicked questions.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is a nonprofit organization that offers practice questions and study materials to anyone. They have free test prep resources for SAT, LSAT, MCAT, GMAT, IIT JEE and NCLEX-RN.

Picmonic

Picmonic is an interactive audio-visual learning system that helps students memorize information faster and remember it for longer. On their website, it says “Picmonic incorporates known memory science techniques to maximize long term retention …”. If you are a visual learner, you may find this resource helpful. They have a paid subscription but they also offer a free version with limited questions and study material.

Mometrix Academy

Mometrix Academy is yet another NCLEX review service that provides free practice sample questions for NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN. The free sample tests contain 15 questions.

UWorld

UWorld is one of the most popular NCLEX review services. It provides a demo version of their Qbank free of charge and without requiring registration. The demo is provided both for NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN and each exam types comes with free 25 questions. Each question comes with detail rational and you can take the tests either in a study mode or in an exam mode.

NCLEX Study Guide (pdf)

This famous NCLEX study guide has been passed around among nursing students for years. I’m not sure who created the document but I read that it has helped a lot of students.

Merk Manuals

Merk Manuals is one of the oldest and most widely used comprehensive medical resources for professionals and consumers. They have a great collection of medical quizzes which can be used to support your NCLEX preparation.
