Albany State University
Albany State University is a public university in Albany and part of the University System of Georgia. Albany is a medium-size city on the Flint River and home to several higher education institutions besides Albany State University. The university is a historically black university (HBCU) and the largest of the three HBCUs in Georgia. It was founded in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute. In 2017, the university merged with Darton State College, increasing the size of the student population. The university is structured into five different colleges, including the Darton College of Health Professions where the nursing programs are offered.
Albany State University offers both undergrad and graduate degree programs in nursing. The undergrad programs include BSN, RN to BSN, accelerated BSN, and LPN programs. The graduate-level programs include MSN, accelerated MSN, and RN to MSN programs. The department of nursing provides students with many ways to achieve their educational requirements, including traditional, evening, and hybrid class schedules. Several of the programs are even offered online, including the RN to BSN program and MSN program. The BSN program gives students hands-on training at local clinics and is accredited by the Georgia Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), while the school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
