The University of Akron is a public university with the main campus in Akron, Ohio. It is part of the University System of Ohio. Over 200 undergraduate and 100 graduate programs are offered at the university, including several nursing programs. The university has an annual enrollment of over 25,000 students. Along with the Akron campus, there are branch campuses in Orrville, Lafayette Township, and Lakewood. The University of Akron was established in 1870. Over the years, the campus has expanded to include 82 buildings across 222 acres of land, with a total property value of almost $2 billion.

The University of Akron Main Campus offers both undergrad and graduate nursing degree programs. The undergrad programs include traditional BSN, accelerated BSN, LPN to BSN, and RN to BSN programs. Graduate options include MSN, RN to MSN, Ph.D., and BSN to Ph.D. programs. All options are accredited by the CCNE. The accelerated BSN program is designed to be completed in four semesters, while the traditional program is designed to be completed in four years. Registered nurses with an Associates degree may enroll in the RN to BSN program, which is offered online or through a combination of classroom and distance learning.
