Stony Brook University (SBU) is a public university in Stony Brook, New York. It is also part of the State University of New York System along with nine other campuses. The university was established in 1957 as the State University College of Long Island and moved to Stony Brook five years later. SBU has a strong focus on health sciences. Stony Brook Medicine consists of several schools dedicated to different health professions, including the School of Nursing. It also includes a hospital, clinics, and various community-based healthcare settings. These locations provide clinical experience for nursing students and others enrolled in health care-related degree programs. The university is also the largest employer on Long Island with over 2,700 faculty and over 15,000 employees.

Five nursing programs are available at the SBU School of Nursing including RN to BSN, accelerated BSN, standard BSN, MSN, and DNP programs. These are CCNE-accredited programs while the university is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. If you do not already have a baccalaureate degree, you must complete the core curriculum before enrolling in the BSN program. The prerequisite courses include a total of 57 credits, which you must obtain with a grade of C or higher.
