Southeastern Louisiana University

Hammond, LA 70402

Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) is a public institution in Hammond, Louisiana. It was founded in 1925 and classes were originally taught in Hammond High School. The campus was eventually moved to the north side of the city in 1928 and was renamed Southeastern Louisiana University. After achieving university status, the university received its current name in 1970. SLU now enrolls over 14,000 students each year and offers over 60 different degree programs. The university is organized into five colleges with 18 academic departments and is the third-largest university in the state. The campus is about 45 miles east of Baton Rouge and about 60 miles from New Orleans.

The nursing programs at the SLU School of Nursing include four BSN programs. Students may enroll in a traditional BSN, RN to BSN, LPN to BSN, or accelerated BSN program. The university also offers an MSN program. All programs are accredited by the CCNE, while the baccalaureate degree programs are also accredited by the ACEN. The school offers direct clinical experience at several clinical facilities throughout the region. Students also have access to a high-fidelity simulation center. The MSN program is offered 100% online without any on-campus classes, giving students with a BSN greater flexibility to further their education.
