Program: Jameson Memorial Hospital School Of Nursing

I attended Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Twice(1985)(1997). I found that this school of nursing education has a prejudice when it comes to MALE students. In 1997 the enrollment for my class was 10 and I was # 1 with a 4.0 GPA. Towards the end of my first semester, I was sitting in my clinical instructors office (40 yo male). In the next room, Ms. S****** (Instructor) had a 18 yo female student in my class come to her office. As they were talking, my fellow student said to her that I knew a lot about nursing. She replied to the student , "he doesn't know anything about nursing" . The truth of the matter, at age 14 -16, I volunteered over 1000 hours in a busy ER. At the age of 16, I was taking care of 20 elderly patients in a nursing home on the weekends/fulltime in summer. Long before Ms. S****** completed nursing school. For her to tell that to another student, not knowing I was sitting in the next room. How unethical/unprofessional can a nurse educator be talking about a student to another student. I did not achieve a 4.0 GPA in my first semester because I knew nothing. If I had to do it over, I would have been in her face about what she just said about me. Then I would have sued the school and Ms. S****** for slander and filed a complaint with the board of nursing for unethical behavior/ conduct of a nurse educator and the school she represents, continuing and completed my education there. For my love for the nursing profession and being attacked not once, but twice at Jameson Memorial Hospital SofN, because I was EXCELLENT student. They can move the school up the street all they want, but it will not change the prejudice acts they have been doing against Male Students for years. " Men weren't meant to be nurses". So if you are MALE, I highly suggest you apply to Sharon Regional School of Nursing or Eastern Gateway Community College (RN/AAS program)(Starting Fall 2019-Youngstown Campus). I am not the first student that was male and had this type of treatment at Jameson Hospital. For me, I have done okay. I am making the same yearly salary as RN's make. But most importantly. I have kept my dignity.
