Nursing Programs

The Henrico County Public Schools -Saint Mary’s Hospital School of Practical Nursing runs a program designed to prepare students to provide direct nursing care in a range of healthcare settings.

The program is an eighteen program divided into two nine month sections. The first part of the program constitutes the Practical Nursing I program offered at Hermitage Technical Center in morning and afternoon sessions Monday through Friday.

High school seniors can attend their regular school for half of each school day and the other half at the technical center.  

The second half of the Practical Nursing program is a full time program Monday through Friday offering students clinical experience in a range of healthcare settings in the community and at St. Mary's Hospital.

Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to apply to sit for the National Council of Licensure to be licensed as a Practical Nurse.

Admission requirements

Admission is open to seniors entering their senior year in Henrico County Public Schools and qualified adults who are either residents of the county or who are employed by the Bon Secours Richmond Health System.

  1. High school seniors are expected to submit a technical center application along with an application to the nursing program
  2. Adults need to submit: 
  • High School Transcript or GED equivalency certificate
  • Three academic or professional references
  • College transcripts
  • Pre admission Examination

Application deadline to the program is the 1st of March for enrollment in September.
