Becoming eligible for LPN employment in the State of Georgia means completing a training program that is approved by the Georgia Board of Examiners of NCLEX-PN. Generally, a GED or a completed high school diploma is the chief requirement for entry-level applicants. Majority of practical nursing programs in this state have supervised classroom and clinical instructions in a hospital setting. These programs can be easily completed in just a year. Technical schools as well as junior colleges offer programs that can let you have an LPN career.

A Promising LPN Employment Outlook

The prospect for employment among LPNs in Georgia is quite promising. The growth is foreseen at 21% between 2008 and 2018.  The national expected growth for LPN jobs is different when compared to the expected growth in Georgia. A lot of LPNs leave their jobs every year in order to advance to higher opportunities, while some simply retire.

The salary range for LPNs in GA is anywhere from $35,301 to $41,639; this is according to the Salary.com report in 2012. This is slated to increase what with the steady growth of nursing demands in the whole country. Notice that Georgia hospitals, clinics, therapy centers, and many other health care facilities are brimming with LPN schedules these days. This can only mean one thing in the next years – more LPN jobs.

Georgia LPN Degree and Education

Becoming a nurse in the quickest possible manner can only be achieved if you take the Practical Nursing program. Earning a degree means studying for a year and obtaining the required CPR card as well as passing the NCLEX-PN examination.

Becoming an LPN entails finishing the Practical Nursing program and this is offered in the following colleges –

Albany Technical College

Also referred to as the ATC, this is a state-supported, two-year, co-educational college in Albany. Founded in 1961, it was then named Monroe Area Vocational-Technical School. This school then merged to the Albany Area Vocational-Technical School a decade after. It was finally named Albany Technical college only in the year 2000.

The LPN Program in this college focuses on instructing physiology, anatomy, drug calculations, diet therapy, nutrition, ethics, and patient care. Clinical experience in this school includes acute, mental health, long-term and outpatient care instruction.

Atlanta Technical College

Also referred to as the ATC, this school is located in Atlanta, GA. It is a member of the Technical College System of Georgia and offers diplomas, certificates and Associate’s degrees.

The Practical Nursing program in this college is specifically designed to train students to become full-fledged, competent nursing care professionals. This is achieved through a series of academic and occupational courses teaching a variety of techniques.

Successful completion of the coursework and adherence to the HCA or Healthcare Assistant curriculum guidelines renders a student eligible to graduate. You must also be able to maintain a grade point average of 2.5.
